Fedora 15 and Mixxx Broadcasting

Hallo,

I’m quiet new to Mixxx but I loved to know that I can broadcast with it in Ubuntu 10.10 using the Mixxx 1.9.0 Version from the PPA.

Now, on Fedora 15 using Mixxx 1.9.0 from RPM Fusion, I can’t get the “Broadcast Settings” Tab in the preferences.

I already followed the short wiki, to install lame:

yum install lame

(suggested package libmp3lame0 doesn’t exsist in F15)

and libmp3lame also can be found on the filesystem:

# locate libmp3lame /usr/lib/libmp3lame.so.0 /usr/lib/libmp3lame.so.0.0.0

What else might be missing? Are there any switches in the config I have to set?

You need libvorbis installed too I think.

same thing here. I have installed both lame and libvorbis but the broadcasting tab doesn’t show.

The Mixxx builds in RPM fusion are not “official” and we don’t control how they are built. I checked with the guy who packaged them and he doesn’t remember if they are built with shoutcast or not.

Could you post a log of running Mixxx? The first few lines it prints to the log indicate whether it was built with shoutcast or not. If it’s not built with shoutcast support then you’re out of luck and will have to build from source. If that’s the case, the packager says “please file a bug in RPM fusion” .

I thought it was a building issue too, in fact I tried to contact the person who made the package in RPM Fusion, but I got no answer… I’ll fill a bug

Can you give more detail on what you are doing when you hear choppy sounds? Is that from the regular mixxx mixing/playing functionality or do you mean from a client connected to the shoutcast server? (I’ve never actually used the streaming feature).

for the problem with mixxx closing after going to sound settings, can you run mixxx from a terminal like so:

pasuspender mixxx

after it crashes copy paste the full output and the mixxx devs can have a look

I haven’t had much time today, so I could try only now. Well, first of all the choppy audio is in my headphones during the normal mix, no streaming involved. Then I think I mistook word by saying that it “crashes” in the audio preferences. It hangs rather than crash. Right after I click “apply” when I change the output settings, the preference window hangs and I have to force the application to quit then. Another thing that doesn’t work is the track loading into decks. Sometimes it works, but sometimes doesn’t. I try to load songs both by the controller and by the Mixxx interface, but nothing… Anyway I post the output of “pasuspender gdb mixxx” if it can be helpful

I noticed it’s set to 48000 hz sample rate. if you change it to 41000 hz does it help? Just a hopeful guess. Also what if you try different output devices?

Are you using the same ~/.mixxx from 1.9.0 ? When I go between versions it helps if i move the existing ~/.mixxx to a backup and start fresh sometimes.

Just some ideas.

I can’t change the sample rate to 41000 Hz I mean, I can, but I am not able to load tracks into decks so I can’t check if there are choppy sounds in headphones with that setting. I think that there may be an issue with pulseaudio, because the no track loading and the hanging of the audio preference window happens when I select “pulse” in the output tab (now I can’t switch back to default because if I try to change settings it freezes and I have to force quit the program and the new setting doesn’t apply). Anyway I deleted the .mixxx folder in my home before installing this version, so everything was resetted when I tried “experimenting” with it.

What version of PortAudio are you using? Anything prior to March of 2011 has a bug that can cause hangs.

I believe portaudio-19-12fc15 is not affected by PortAudio’s longtime freezing. Here is JBStrikesAgain’s bug report and the corresponding fix that was picked up in portaudio-19-11fc15:
